St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church

Carmel, IN

Saint Elizabeth Seton is located in a suburb of Indianapolis that was once a rural landscape dotted with farm buildings.

The design of the parish complex recalls that heritage by using strong, simple forms in a pastoral setting. The parish complex is composed of five independent structures arranged around a commons area. The church, which seats 800, evokes a rural quality with its open rafters and wood ceiling. The height of the worship space imparts a sense of quiet reverence.

An inviting fellowship hall, administrative offices and a weekday chapel are housed in separate structures. The commons area is multi-purpose; it serves as an entry area to each of the separate structures and as a gathering space before and after liturgies.
