As the design team leading the renovation at Central Lakes College in Brainerd, we are excited to contribute to the transformation of a campus that plays such an integral role in the community. The renovation project, which began in February 2025 and is set to conclude in early 2026, involves a complete reimagining of approximately 45,458 square feet of space dedicated to Student Services and Academic Support. Our goal is to create an environment that not only looks modern and inviting but also enhances accessibility and supports the academic success of the students who pass through these spaces every day.
One of the most exciting aspects of this project is the redesign of the Student Services areas. We’ve worked closely with the college to streamline the flow of traffic, ensuring students can easily access the resources they need. To create a space that truly serves everyone, we held multiple sessions with staff and students to gather feedback. This input was essential in shaping a design that is both functional and welcoming. The goal is to make sure students feel supported from the moment they enter, with open, flexible spaces that promote interaction and engagement, while being accessible to all.
The renovation also includes significant updates to the athletic facilities, with a focus on improving the locker rooms and related spaces. These areas are essential for students involved in physical education and athletics, and it’s been a priority to create spaces that are not only functional but also motivating, inspiring, and inclusive. The design of these spaces is rooted in wellness principles, aiming to create an environment that promotes both physical and mental well-being.
Throughout the renovation process, we’ve been mindful of the need to maintain a balance between modernizing the campus and preserving the college’s unique identity. We’ve incorporated elements that speak to the college’s history while introducing fresh, innovative design concepts
Overall, this renovation is about more than just updating physical spaces; it’s about creating an environment that encourages success, collaboration, and a sense of belonging. We are proud to be part of this journey and excited for the students, faculty, and staff to experience the new spaces that will better support their educational goals and overall college experience.
A highlight of this renovation process was the “wall-breaking” ceremony held on February 28, 2025. This symbolic event marked the official start of the project, bringing together students, faculty, and staff to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter for the college. It was a moment of excitement and anticipation as it set the stage for what’s to come. We are thrilled to continue working alongside our team of partners to ensure the success of this renovation, and we look forward to seeing how these changes will positively impact the college community for years to come.
